Gurdon Saltonstall Hubbard, Noel Le Vasseur, and Francois Bourbonnais were early pioneers employed by The American Fur Company who had a post near this site. Father de Pontavisse was the first priest and religious teacher in this vicinity. Together with other pioneers, they blazed a trail through the wilderness with indomitable courage and helped lead later generations into a glorious heritage.
