Burials were made here as early as 1836, but it was 1849 before residents of Sashibaw Plains formed the Sashabaw Burial Association for the purpose of “fencing, improving, ornamenting, and keeping the burying ground ... in proper repair.” A center alley was created, the price of lots was set at $1.00, the Association meets annually and maintains the cemetery, and a sizable addition was authorized in 1949.
