San Pedro Parks Wilderness is a protected mountain landscape in northern New Mexico within the Santa Fe National Forest, covering 41,132 acres in the Nacimiento Mountains. First set aside as a Primitive Area in 1931 and formally protected as wilderness in 1965, it preserves a high plateau of conifer forest, broad grassy meadows, and small streams at elevations mostly above 10,000 feet. Motorized travel, roads, buildings, logging, and mining are absent, while hiking, horseback riding, camping, fishing, hunting, and winter travel are allowed. Its wet high-country conditions support trout streams, abundant wildflowers, and wildlife including elk, mule deer, black bear, and wild turkey.
