Near Milford, Ohio, the Gatch Site is one of Clermont County’s largest known archaeological sites and is believed to have been a Native American village during the Middle Woodland period. Covering about 75 acres on the former farm of John N. Gatch, it long yielded artifacts through repeated plowing. Surveys found the densest remains in the southern and northwestern parts of the property, including firepits, campsites, and burials. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it is an important record of Woodland-period settlement in the Ohio Valley and later became central to preservation efforts along the East Fork of the Little Miami River.
