Patriot Isle honors the men and women of Shrewsbury who served their country in World War II, especially George L. Atkinson and Robert R. Campbell, who gave their lives for their country. It also remembers Capt. Samuel T. Sleeper, who fell at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, on May 12, 1864, Lieutenant Samuel Hoyt of Wadsworth Brigade, Connecticut State Troops in 1776, and Lieut. Colonel David S. Brown of the 22nd Regt. Infantry, New York National Guard, in U.S. service in 1862.
