Chip Jaggers was born in Trenton, New Jersey, and spent most of his youth in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Taylor University from 1965 to 1969, then became a youth director at a church in Hamilton, Ohio, where he met Verna Hensley; they married in 1970. In 1971 they returned to Indiana, and he earned a master's degree in Student Development Administration from Ball State. Hired by Taylor University in 1972 as Associate Dean of Students, he served there for the next 24 years in roles including VP of Student Development, VP of Advancement, and VP of University Relations, and he also earned a Doctorate of Education from Ball State in 1985. In 1996 he left Taylor to become Director of University Communications at Ball State. His public and civic service included work on the Eastbrook Community Schools Strategic Planning Task Force in 1990, the Grant County Economic Growth Council from 1994 to 1996, the Grant County Area Planning Commission from 1998 to 2001, and Our Town Upland from 1992 until 2017. He helped initiate the Master Plan of Upland with Ball State, served as a trustee of the Minnetrista Cultural Foundation, and was a member of Upland Town Council from 1997 to 2017, serving for a time as president. In Upland he worked to help bring back the Depot in 1994, and with Warren Ross he helped spearhead the original Community Plunge, which paired Taylor University students with work projects serving Upland residents. He also envisioned an event to bring the town together, leading to the creation of the annual Upland Christmas Tree Lighting, which he, Warren Ross, and others co-presided over each December for its first 25 years; Chip and Verna were asked to light the tree in 2016, an honor he counted as a highlight of his life. Chip and Verna raised their two children, Craig and Heather, in Upland; both attended Eastbrook schools and Taylor University, and Verna taught for more than 20 years in Eastbrook Public Schools and served on the board of Kiddie Kampus preschool. The Jaggers lived, worked, worshiped, and took part in the Upland community, believing they had benefited from what others had built before them and wanting to give back. More recently, Chip has served as Stewardship Pastor of Northview Church in Carmel and has taught as an adjunct professor in Taylor University's Masters in Ministry program; he and Verna live near their daughter and her family in Carmel, Indiana.
