Norris Ford Covered Bridge near Rushville in eastern Indiana spans Big Flat Rock Creek and stands as a late example of the Kennedy family firm’s covered bridge work. Built in 1916 by Emmett L. Kennedy and his sons Karl and Charles, the 154-foot Burr Arch road bridge has rounded arch portals but omits the decorative scrollwork and brackets common on earlier Kennedy bridges, showing changing tastes by the early 20th century. In 1983 it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as part of a group of six Kennedy family bridges, recognizing both its local transportation role and its connection to a notable Indiana bridge-building family.
