Monarch Mountain is a 2,777-metre peak in the Victoria Cross Ranges of Jasper National Park, Alberta, within the Canadian Rockies. Its runoff feeds tributaries of the Miette and Snaring rivers, which join the Athabasca River. The origin of its name is unknown. Geologically, the mountain consists of sedimentary rock deposited from the Precambrian to the Jurassic and later pushed eastward over younger rock during the Laramide orogeny, a major mountain-building episode in the Rockies. It stands in a subarctic climate with cold, snowy winters, mild summers, and severe winter wind chill, while the usual climbing season runs from July through September.
