Pima Canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson is a well-known front-range route valued for its rugged scenery, unusual desert riparian habitat, and easy access from the city. Rising from Pima Creek to Pima Saddle beneath nearby Mount Kimball, it includes the striking cliffs of Pusch Ridge and supports birdlife, desert mammals, and Sonoran Desert plants. Pima Creek flows intermittently after rain or snowmelt, helping sustain this rich environment. The main access is Pima Canyon Trail, a popular lower hike to a small dam and Native American grinding potholes, with steeper, more difficult routes continuing to Pima Spring, Pima Saddle, and Mount Kimball.
