Hares Canyon, also known as Hare's Canyon, is a short valley in Oregon's Northern Coast Range south of Vernonia. Drained by Williams Creek into the West Fork of Dairy Creek and the Tualatin River, it has long been linked to transportation through a railroad line that still runs through the valley. A former rail line was later turned into part of the Banks–Vernonia State Trail, connecting the area to both its rail heritage and modern recreation. Named for local lumberman Joseph C. Hare, son of Senator William D. Hare, much of the canyon is now protected within L.L. "Stub" Stewart Memorial State Park, opened in 2007.
