Gouldsboro State Park spans 2,880 acres in Pennsylvania’s Pocono region across Monroe and Wayne counties, centered on the 250-acre Gouldsboro Lake. Its name traces to Jay Gould through the nearby village, and a rail line along the park’s eastern edge once supported local industry, including the Thornhurst tannery. Gouldsboro Lake assumed its present form in 1895, when a dam and spillway were built to expand ice harvesting. After the dam passed to state control, the park opened in 1958. Repeated dam problems led to major repairs and a full lake rehabilitation completed in 2008. Today it serves as a four-season recreation area for boating, fishing, swimming, trails, picnicking, and seasonal hunting.
