Estanislao Chapter 58 of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus was established on June 21, 1958. Its inaugural meeting took place at the historic Tulloch Flour Mill in Knights Ferry under the direction of Noble Grand Humbug W.S. 'Walt' Hargrove, with forty-eight founding and charter members present. Named after Yokut Chief Estanislao and sponsored by Matuca Chapter 1849, the chapter received its charter by Grand Council Decree. Its territory was first limited to Stanislaus County and in 1962 was extended to include Merced County. Known as Clampers, its members grew into the thousands, with a principal objective of preserving historical heritage and perpetuating interest in the area through erecting monuments to past events, awarding scholarships to local history majors, and performing charitable work for local entities.
