Roosevelt State Park, on the southwest side of Morton, Mississippi, is one of the state’s long-established parks, centered on 150-acre Shadow Lake at the edge of Bienville National Forest. Built as one of Mississippi’s original state parks by the Civilian Conservation Corps, work began in August 1935 and the park opened in April 1940, tying it to the New Deal era. Its significance lies in both that Depression-era origin and its broad recreational role, with boating, fishing, campsites, cabins, trails, picnic areas, sports facilities, and the 600-seat Livingston Performing Arts and Media Center serving visitors in a lake-and-forest setting.
