Moore Lookout Tower in Forest, Mississippi, was built in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the early growth of Mississippi’s national forests and the expansion of fire detection and forest management infrastructure. In the Bienville National Forest, the 100-foot steel fire lookout is distinguished by an unusual design: its staircase wraps around the outside rather than being enclosed within the frame. At the top, a wooden lookout cab with a hipped roof and surrounding deck survives as part of this rare structure. As the only known example of its specific type in Mississippi, it holds notable architectural and conservation significance.
