Cross Island National Wildlife Refuge is a protected coastal area in Cutler, Maine, and one of five refuges within the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Spanning 1,700 acres across six islands, it is dominated by Cross Island, which accounts for 1,489 acres, while the rest includes Scotch Island, the Inner and Outer Double Head Shot, Mink Island, and Old Man Island. Old Man Island holds a notable place in the refuge’s history as the site of a 1908 effort to save endangered eider ducks. The refuge remains part of Maine’s broader network of protected coastal islands.
