Stoppel Point is a mountain in Greene County, New York, in the Catskill Mountains northeast of Haines Falls, with North Mountain to its southeast. Its slopes feed several waterways, draining east into Winter Clove, north into Countryman Kill and East Kill, and helping supply Kaaterskill Creek from its eastern side. The mountain is also known for a modern wreck site from May 26, 1983, when a Piper PA-28-140 crashed into the mountain at about 3,400 feet in bad weather. The pilot’s student certificate had been revoked, and remains of the airplane still lie on the mountain.
