Lieutenant James Barrett of Company A, Private George Johnson of Company A, and Private William S. Leonard of Company D of the 1st California Cavalry Volunteers were killed at Picacho Pass on April 15, 1862, in the only battle of the Civil War fought in Arizona Territory.
