Nature
Ragged Top is a 3,907-foot mountain in southern Arizona’s Silver Bell Mountains, within Ironwood Forest National Monument northwest of Tucson. Rising more than 1,700 feet above the surrounding desert, it is a prominent landmark and an important biological and geological feature of the monument. Its slopes and bajadas support saguaro and ironwood forest, along with wildlife such as desert bighorn sheep and desert tortoise. The area has an unusual richness of desert plant life, with 401 recorded species, including false grama, found in Arizona only here. Ragged Top also contains four small natural arches and lies within the Gila River drainage basin.
