The monument bears the dates 1861 to 1865 and is dedicated to the Confederate dead and to Confederate veterans. Its inscriptions include a quotation attributed to Jefferson Davis expressing the belief that posterity would vindicate their conduct and judge the sincerity of their efforts to preserve the government of their fathers in its spirit, and another inscription declaring that eternal right cannot be made wrong though all things fail, followed by the words, “Many of whom gave all, and all of whom gave much.” It was erected by the Francis S. Bartow Chapter U.D.C.
