Mount Lamborn is an eleven thousand four hundred two-foot mountain in western Colorado’s West Elk Mountains and the highest point in Delta County. Rising about six thousand feet above the North Fork Gunnison River valley, it forms, with nearby Landsend Peak, a dramatic wall along the western edge of the West Elks above the orchards and settlements below. Its especially bold profile comes from its geology: Mount Lamborn is an eroded igneous intrusion called a laccolith, giving it a massive, abrupt form unlike peaks shaped mainly by uplift alone. It remains notable for both its commanding relief and its standing within this part of the Rockies.
