Landsend Peak is a wedge-shaped mountain in Colorado’s West Elk Mountains, northeast of Crawford, whose 10,806-foot summit rises about 4,000 feet above the valley below and dominates the surrounding landscape. With nearby Mount Lamborn, it forms the western edge of both the West Elk Mountains and the West Elk Wilderness. The two massifs stand about 1 mile above the adjacent North Fork Gunnison River, marking a sharp transition from river country to high mountains. Within Gunnison National Forest near the meeting of the Rocky Mountains and the Colorado Plateau, Landsend Peak is an exposed igneous intrusion, or laccolith, whose geology helps give it its distinctive form and prominence.
