John Perkins Barratt was a physician, naturalist, versatile intellect, and agricultural leader who served as president of the Abbeville District Medical Society in 1835. A friend of Agassiz, Audubon, and other major scientists, he used his own advanced thinking to outline a theory of serial evolution and to foresee airplanes and trips to the moon.
