Built by John D. Howland circa 1856~1857, this home was later owned and occupied by John H. Farquhar, a merchant and member of Congress; Aaron C. Miller, a merchant; John C. Hitt, a banker; Dr. John R. Goodwin, a banker, Civil War surgeon, paymaster in the Department of the Interior, and trustee of DePauw University; his son Charles F. Goodwin, a banker and trustee of DePauw University; and his grandson John P. Goodwin, a banker and long~time member of the Indiana Library and historical Board. It remained in the possession of the Goodwin family from 1872~1944.
