Historic Bain Academy was established by John Bain on Philadelphia Presbyterian Church land in 1889 and was redesigned in 1924 by AIA architect Louis Asbury to include a 300-seat auditorium. Tina Ross, chair of Historic Bain Restoration, led efforts to save the building, but it was demolished in 2020 after a bond referendum failed. The legacy of John Bain, who is buried in the adjoining cemetery, lives on through the academy's alumni.
