Built in 1778 by Levi Shinn, who came from New Jersey in 1773 and claimed tomahawk rights, this house was associated with his return with his family and brothers, Clement and Jonathan, to settle there. He sold part of the land to Jonathan, whose son Levi deeded it as the site of Shinnston.
