Harbour Town Light stands at Harbour Town Marina on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where it was privately built between 1969 and 1970 as part of Harbour Town Marina and Sea Pines Plantation and serves as a private aid to navigation. Begun by Charles Fraser, the 93-foot octagonal lighthouse is finished in stucco over metal lath and plywood, with alternating red and white bands, a red observation deck, and a white light flashing every 25 seconds. Once reportedly mocked by some local residents, it soon became a beloved landmark and is now the most recognizable symbol of Hilton Head Island and Sea Pines Resort.
