Hilton Head Range Rear Light, also called the Leamington Lighthouse, is an inactive lighthouse on Hilton Head Island built by the U.S. Lighthouse Board between 1879 and 1880 as part of a range station guiding navigation. Its cast-iron skeleton tower stands on six concrete piers, with a central stair tower leading to a wooden watch room and lantern. Originally lit by Hains oil lamps and later by Funck-Heap lamps, it was deactivated in 1932. Although its movable front range light is gone, the nearby brick oil house survives. The tower’s unusual later history and its 1983 listing on the National Register of Historic Places underscore its rarity in Hilton Head’s maritime past.
