Jennings Environmental Education Center is a Pennsylvania state park north of Butler that preserves the state's only publicly protected prairie ecosystem, a rare twenty-acre relict prairie that shelters blazing star and the endangered massasauga rattlesnake. Established primarily for environmental education, the park offers hands-on programs centered on discovery and problem solving. Its history stretches from paleo-Indians after the Ice Age to Iroquois farming and burning that may have helped sustain the prairie, and later to the Venango Path. Named for botanist Dr. Otto Emery Jennings, who discovered the prairie in 1905, the site became a nature reserve in 1952 and the education center in 1979.
