Lone Walker Mountain is an 8,502-foot summit in Montana’s Glacier National Park, rising in the Lewis Range on the Continental Divide just southwest of Upper Two Medicine Lake. Set in a high glaciated landscape, it lies within an alpine subarctic climate marked by long, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and extreme winter cold intensified by wind chill. The mountain also reflects the park’s distinctive geologic history: sedimentary layers deposited from the Precambrian to the Jurassic were later uplifted beginning about 170 million years ago, when the Lewis Overthrust fault pushed older Precambrian rock over younger Cretaceous formations, helping form the area’s striking ridges and peaks.
