Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge
Science & Tech
Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge in Northfield, Vermont, carries Cox Brook Road over Cox Brook west of Northfield Falls. The westernmost of three covered bridges on the road and one of five surviving nineteenth-century covered bridges in the town, it is a small wooden bridge built with skewed Queen post trusses. Although its historic trusses now support only the superstructure, it remains a working crossing with a metal gabled roof, vertical board siding, and a deck strengthened by steel I-beams. Its preservation reflects the once-common wooden bridge building of rural Vermont, and its significance was recognized by National Register listing in 1974.
