Lower Cox Brook Covered Bridge in Northfield, Vermont, was built about 1872 and is one of five surviving nineteenth-century covered bridges in the town. It stands within a rare cluster of historic spans, with three nineteenth-century covered bridges along Cox Brook Road within about a quarter mile, and it is the only place in Vermont where one historic covered bridge over one stream can be seen from another over a different stream. This wooden Queen post truss bridge is 56.5 feet long and was later altered in the 1960s with steel I-beams beneath the deck, leaving the original trusses to support only the superstructure.
