Fort White Wildlife and Environmental Area is a 1,610-acre protected tract in northern Florida, west of Fort White, where sandhill habitat meets the Santa Fe River. Its open uplands support imperiled species including Sherman's fox squirrel, gopher tortoise, Florida mouse, and gopher frog, while the river corridor is home to aquatic and semi-aquatic wildlife such as otters, beavers, and manatees. Migratory and resident birds, including swallow-tailed kites, barred owls, and Bachman's sparrows, add to its ecological importance. The area also serves recreation through seasonal hunting, bass fishing on the river, loop trails, and river access for paddlers near stands of large bald cypress.
