Established in 1976 and occupying 105 acres, Laumeier Sculpture Park evolved from a history of land use that included agriculture and private estates into one of the premier outdoor art museums in the country. It offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor projects and exhibitions. Its outdoor galleries contain 75 or more works on display and serve as a forum for temporary or performative projects, while its indoor galleries in the Estate House rotate temporary contemporary exhibitions. Laumeier also conducts a wide variety of educational programming, including classes, camps, and tours ranging from self-guided and electronic media to docent-led tours. The park is also a setting for healthy, green, leisurely strolls and picnics among the artwork across glades, glens, forested areas, and an extensive trail system. As the museum evolves, it represents connections between past history and current and evolving trends in art, land use, and preservation.
