Wolf Mountain is a prominent 11,808-foot summit in Montana’s Beartooth Mountains, within the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness of Custer National Forest. Near Granite Peak, it is the state’s 35th-highest summit and is especially notable for its dramatic local relief, rising 2,860 feet above Glacier Green Lake in less than a mile. Water from its slopes flows into Clarks Creek and Glacier Creek, tributaries of the Stillwater River, and a cirque on its east side contains Wolf Glacier. Shaped by a subarctic climate and severe weather, the remote peak was first known to be climbed in 1926 by famed mountaineer Norman Clyde.
