Panther Creek Cemetery has held a long and notable place in the history of the early settlement of Dallas County. The first recorded burial was Benjamin Van Cleave in 1854. The land for the cemetery was purchased from the Hougham, Stacy, and Button families of Dallas County. It has been privately owned and operated by its members since it was first incorporated with the State of Iowa in 1882. The small building to the north is the original meeting hall, constructed in 1918 as a place for members to meet and conduct cemetery business each year. The cemetery is the final resting place of veterans of the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and others who served the nation.
