The monument honors Confederate dead with the inscriptions “CSA 1861,” “Our Confederate Dead,” and “UDC 1865,” and includes the words, “Love of God and love of country are the two noblest passions in the human heart. A man without a country is an exile in the world. And a man without God is an orphan in eternity,” attributed to Rev. Henry van Dyke. It was erected in 1911 by the Mary Ann Buie Chapter, U.D.C.
