Mount Sneffels, a 14,153-foot peak in southwestern Colorado, is the highest summit of the Sneffels Range and the highest point in Ouray County. Rising dramatically above the surrounding terrain, it stands 7,200 feet above Ridgway and is among Colorado’s most photographed mountains, especially from Dallas Divide; its profile has also appeared on state driver licenses and identification cards. Despite its name and crater-like western flank, it is not a volcano but a Tertiary igneous stock intruded into older San Juan Volcanics. A popular climbing destination, it is commonly reached through Yankee Boy Basin or by the ridge from Blue Lakes Pass.
