Mine Hill in Auburn, New Hampshire, stands on the eastern side of Lake Massabesic and rises 585 feet above sea level, making it one of the town’s two highest points, just above nearby Mount Miner. The hill also served a practical role in fire observation, with a wooden lookout tower operating there from 1940 to 1989 under Manchester Water Works, which owns the western side. A distinctive feature of the hill is Devil’s Den, a cave about 80 feet long with a very small entrance that opens farther into the hill, and the cave is also known as a source of tremolite.
