Idlewild Park was a regular stop on the Ligonier Valley Railroad, which connected with the P.R.R.'s main line at Latrobe from 1878 to 1952. Idlewild's first structure, this depot served as the park's stop on the railroad. It had a waiting room, a ticket agent room or office, and a freight express room in a space measuring 10 by 25 feet. Ripley's Believe It or Not considered it the smallest full service depot in the U.S. and it was said to be the smallest full service depot in the U.S.A.
