Magee Peak
Nature
Magee Peak is a stratovolcano in northern California’s Cascade Volcanic Arc, in Shasta County between Lassen Peak’s volcanic field and Mount Shasta. Last active about 1 to 2 million years ago, it is now known as a hiking destination reached by the Magee Trail. Its terrain reflects its volcanic origins, including a large cirque on the northeast side and nearby features such as Crater Peak, Red Cliff, Gray Cliff, and Fredonyer Peak. A watchtower once stood on the mountain, adding a human landmark to a landscape shaped by long-extinct volcanic activity.
