Moore State Park in Paxton, Massachusetts, spans 737 acres and preserves both a scenic woodland setting and the remains of an early industrial landscape shaped by Turkey Hill Brook. The brook’s steep drop powered at least five mills in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and traces of the old mill village include foundations, a triphammer, quarry, schoolhouse, and tavern. A gristmill and sawmill existed by 1747, and the site later became a private estate before much of it entered the state park. Today it features a restored sawmill, Eames Pond, waterfalls, old mill chutes, varied recreation, and a chestnut restoration planting begun in 2003.
