Miwok headman Aleck Blue received ancestral land at this cemetery from his employer and friend Pio Valensin for the burial of himself and his lineal descendants; that land is now recognized as rows 14 through 18 of the eastern side. Aleck was well known for his healing, his leadership as a medicine man, and for maintaining the traditional ways of the Miwok people.
