M.K. Goddard/Wykoff Run Natural Area
Nature
M.K. Goddard/Wykoff Run Natural Area is a 1,215-acre protected tract in Gibson Township, Cameron County, within Pennsylvania’s Elk State Forest at the center of the Quehanna Wild Area. Originally known as Wykoff Run Natural Area, it later took on the added name of Maurice K. Goddard in the 2010s to recognize his contributions to wilderness management in Pennsylvania. Before protection, the site had an unusual industrial past: from 1955 to 1960, during Curtiss-Wright Corporation’s use of this part of Quehanna as a research facility, the tract contained two jet engine testing cells. It is now designated a state forest natural area within a larger wild landscape.
