Jennie Lakes Wilderness is a protected high-country landscape in California’s Sierra Nevada within Sequoia National Forest, established in 1984 as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Covering about 10,500 acres north of Sequoia National Park and west of Kings Canyon National Park, it includes lakes, meadows, streams, forests, granite outcrops, and elevations from 6,640 feet to 10,365 feet at Mitchell Peak. Jennie Lake, named in 1890 by Sam Ellis for his wife, is the largest and highest of its six lakes. The area is popular for hiking and other backcountry recreation, with seasonal protections to limit heavy summer impacts around the most visited lakes.
