Nature
Kennekuk Cove County Park is a three thousand-acre protected county park in Blount Township, about five miles west of Danville in eastern Illinois. Part of a broader landscape of public land, it adjoins the Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area on the west and Kickapoo State Recreation Area on the south. Lake Mingo, a one hundred seventy-acre lake, is a central feature that shapes the park’s character. The park also contains Dodson Cemetery and the Lorrence Pioneer Cemetery, small historic burial grounds that preserve evidence of earlier settlement. Together, its open land, water, and historic sites make it one of the larger public green spaces in the area.
