Numa Ridge Fire Lookout in Glacier National Park was built in 1933 as part of a network of staffed lookout posts designed to provide overlapping fire-detection coverage. The low, two-story timber building, topped by a pyramidal roof, follows a standard U.S. Forest Service plan. It is also linked to writer Edward Abbey, who spent the summer of 1975 there as the lookout man. The structure remains significant both as part of the park’s historic fire-management system and as a reminder of the period when remote staffed towers played a central role in detecting wildfires.
