In 1920, the Percy & Small shipyard carried out its last significant ship work when the steamer Winapie, built in New Hampshire during World War I, came for conversion into a tank barge. The shipyard removed a three-compartment deckhouse that contained the wireless-operator's room or "radio shack," an infirmary, and a bunkroom for the wartime gun crew. The deckhouse was then used for decades on the grounds of a house in Bath. Although its original flat roof was replaced with a peaked roof, it retained the name "wireless shack" and was eventually reunited with its history.
