Camp Spring in Washington County, Utah, at an elevation of 3,435 feet within the reservation of the Shivwits Band of Paiutes, was an important water stop in an otherwise dry borderland. Travelers used it as a campsite along the Mormon Road wagon route between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, and it was included in the Mormon Waybill published in 1851. The spring may also have served as an earlier stopping place on the Armijo route of the Old Spanish Trail, along Calabacillas Arroyo, on the path toward Utah Hill Summit where the trail and later road crossed the Beaver Dam Mountains between the Santa Clara and Virgin rivers.
