Hardee Hall was named in honor of Lieutenant General William Joseph Hardee, USMA 1838, CSA. A corps commander during the Atlanta Campaign, he fought a delaying action on the depot site during the retreat. Later, he commanded the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida and served as corps commander in the Army of Tennessee until its surrender. He was born at Savannah, Georgia, October 10, 1815, and died November 6, 1873.
