The Fairfield School for Boys was the nation’s first and largest minimum security correctional facility and served more than 100,000 Ohio juvenile offenders before being converted to an adult facility in 1980. Over 122 years, twenty-five superintendents and thousands of staff developed programs for one specific purpose, “to help a boy find his way!” More than 100,000 boys entered its gates, and their lives were touched in one way or another by dedicated staff. In September 1979, the State of Ohio and the Ohio Youth Commission expressed gratitude to all the staff, including those involved in the school’s final closing.
